When I paint, it is an essential part of my nature to experiment. While it is important to me for the viewer to arrive at their own intuitive understanding of a work, as it lends itself to a more intimate experience, I also want them to appreciate the process of creating the art. It is almost as important as the finished product. This work focuses mainly on the Missouri river, countryside, downtown Kansas City architecture, and the trains that weave themselves in and around them. I am always impressed with the way the landscape and the river are ever evolving. By using large fluid shapes and a color palette that takes some inspiration from nature, I create a scenic environment that the viewer could almost step into. The aim is to create work that continually captures the essence of Missouri’s natural environment.
